CQI-15 – Special Process – Welding Assessment: practice on site – #215
Context
CQI-15 (Welding System Assessment) is a standard developed by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) for assessing and improving the control of welding processes, particularly in the automotive industry. These processes include resistance welding, arc welding, laser welding and other fusion or solid-state joining techniques.Â
In accordance with IATF 16949 and specific customer requirements, the CQI-15 applies to all automotive sector suppliers that use welding processes in their manufacturing.Â
The CQI-15 assessment aims to minimize the risk of failure associated with welding processes and ensure the strength, integrity and reliability of welded joints. It also guarantees compliance with the quality, safety and performance requirements expected by automotive manufacturers.Â
This standard constitutes a strategy for the continuous improvement of special processes. It provides a structured framework that enables companies to carry out self-assessments in several key areas, including control of welding processes, equipment capability and maintenance, management of critical welding parameters, personnel qualification and competence, and the effectiveness of monitoring and inspection systems.Â
To ensure that your welding processes meet the requirements of the CQI-15 manual, you need to understand the manual and assess your own welding processes. You should also critically evaluate the self-assessments of your welding suppliers.Â
An action plan is to be developed to ensure compliance with CQI-15.Â
Objectives
- Understand the specific requirements of clients who require the CQI-15.
- Be familiar with the contents of the CQI-15 manual (self-assessment tables, job audits, etc.).
- Identify the key points of the manual and the gaps that need to be addressed in order to comply with it.
- Learn how to use the tables in the CQI-15 manual through a practical self-assessment exercise.
- Develop an action plan to implement the CQI-15 manual.
Recommanded for

Pedagogy
The training alternates between theoretical sessions on the requirements of the CQI-15 manual and practical application sessions through exercises, followed by a practical self-assessment exercise in the field.
This training requires half a day’s preparation with a Quality and/or Technical Manager from the company, to be carried out remotely prior to the on-site assessment. The purpose of this preparation is to:
- Select one or two relevant products to serve as training materials
- Select the documents required for the preparation of the on-site assessment
Evaluation mode
- Knowledge test (Multi Choice Questions)Â
Course materials
-
Participant file containing the presentations delivered during the training and the exercise materials.
- Digital training materials are made available to trainees a few days before the start of the training course on our LMS platform.
