Functional analysis – #1170
Context
Functional analysis is a method used in product design and development to analyse and develop a functional structure, which is an abstract model of the new product.
By understanding the functions and their interrelationships at each stage of the life cycle, designers can create products that are simpler and more competitive than existing products.
Objectives
-
Understanding the stages in the product life cycle.
- At each stage of the life cycle, using customer requirements as a starting point, identify and value the product’s external functions: main and secondary functions, constrained functions, using the octopus of the APTE® method.
-
Using a block diagram, identify and evaluate the product’s internal functions: technical functions and flow functions.
Recommanded for
- Project manager
- Development engineer and technician, design office, project quality.
- Anyone involved in product design
Prerequisites
No prerequisites.
Distance learning
- Have a PC equipped with a microphone, a webcam and, if possible, a headset for greater comfort. Note: wallpapers are available on Zoom or Teams to hide the background.
- Have a good Internet connection, which should be tested before the session.
- Settle down in a quiet, isolated place; set yourself to ‘unavailable’ status on Teams; close your email access, and mute your phone, so as not to be disturbed during the session.
- Participants from the same organisation should not be grouped together in the same room, but each at their own desk, to avoid parallel discussions during the session. Virtual sub-groups will be specially created for the exercises, which will also allow mixed groups to be formed.
- Remote qualification/certification exams must be taken with the webcam and microphone open. We may need to check that you are alone in the room.
- Please log in 5 minutes before the start of the session.
Pedagogy
- Trainees identify good practice in functional analysis:
- Open training session : application to a case study developed by EURO-SYMBIOSE.
- In-house training session : application to a company case study selected in advance with EURO-SYMBIOSE.
Evaluation mode
- Knowledge test (MCQ).
Course materials
- Participant’s file containing the presentations given during the training and the exercise materials.
