CQI-15 – Special ProcessĀ – Welding System Assessment: the method – #2515
Context
CQI-15 (Welding System Assessment) is a standard developed by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) for assessing and improving the control of welding processes, particularly in the automotive industry. These processes include resistance welding, arc welding, laserĀ weldingĀ and other fusion or solid-state joining techniques.Ā
In accordance withĀ IATF 16949 and specific customer requirements, the CQI-15 applies to all automotive sector suppliers that use welding processes in their manufacturing.Ā
The CQI-15 assessment aims to minimize the risk of failure associated with welding processes and ensure the strength,Ā integrityĀ and reliability of welded joints. It also guarantees compliance with the quality,Ā safetyĀ and performance requirements expected by automotive manufacturers.Ā
This standardĀ constitutesĀ a strategy forĀ the continuousĀ improvement of special processes. It provides a structured framework that enables companies to carry out self-assessments in several key areas, including control of welding processes, equipment capability and maintenance, management of critical welding parameters, personnel qualification and competence, and the effectiveness of monitoring and inspection systems.Ā
You want to learn about the requirements and best practices of CQI-15, as well as the self-assessment guidelines. This will help you to implement improvements that ensure the quality, robustness, and performance of welded assemblies in your products.Ā
Objectives
- Understand the specific requirements of clients who require the CQI-15.
- Be familiar with the contents of the CQI-15 manual (self-assessment tables, job audits, etc.).
- Identify the key points of the manual and the gaps that need to be addressed to comply with the manual.
- Know how to use the self-assessment criteria in the CQI-15 manual through a case study focusing on technical aspects.
Recommanded for
- Anyone responsible for developing, implementing or evaluating special processes
- Internal auditors and suppliers
Specific operating conditions for remote sessions
- Have a PC equipped with a microphone, a webcam and, if possible, a headset for greater comfort. Note: wallpapers are available on Zoom or Teams to hide the background.
- Have a good Internet connection, which should be tested before the session.

- Participants from the same organisation should not be grouped together in the same room, but each at their own desk.
- Ā The end-of-course knowledge test must be taken with your webcam and microphone turned on. We may need to verify that you are alone in the room.
- Please sign in 5 minutes before the start of the session.
Prerequisites
- Have the latest edition of the CQI-15 manual as well as the Assessment WorkbookĀ (Excel file).
- GeneralĀ awarenessĀ ofĀ manufacturingĀ orĀ weldingĀ processesĀ
Pedagogy
- The course alternates between theoretical sessions on the requirements of the CQI-15 manual and practical sessions involving exercises and a case study focusing on technical aspects.
Evaluation mode
- Knowledge test (Multi Choice Questions)Ā
Course materials
-
Participant file containing the presentations delivered during the training and the exercise materials.
- Digital training materials are made available to trainees a few days before the start of the training course on our LMS platform.
